W2K Recovery Console

Is it of any (great/necessary) advantage to the Recovery
Console or can it be accessed just as easily from the CD (if/when needed)?
I was curious to see if it is worth learning how to use it.

I do NOT have any problems now, but I stumbled across it and decided to
install it just out of curiosity. However, when I booted to the
recovery console, the screen goes black and and the computer seems to hang.
I'm pretty sure I "waited" long enough, but I it just might be that I
was being a little too impatient. The Recovery Console might have been
scanning or processing something, but there was no activity whatsoever
on the screen for some time.

Is it worth troubleshooting to get it to work or should I leave well
enough alone.

I already have an ERD and have copied the contents of the c\winnt\repair
directory to a memory stick.

Any advise or tips regarding the Recovery Console will be appreciated.
Thanks, Tracey

There is little value in installing the recovery console - you can get into
this mode simply by booting the machine with your Win2000 installation CD.
However, if you want to prepare yourself for some potential disaster then
you should burn yourself a Bart PE boot CD. Great tool!

I forgot to add that the Bart PE boot CD is to the Recovery Console about
like a powerful motor bike to an ordinary pushbike.

In addition it's the files in \winnt\repair\regback\ that are important.

Yes, I keep a current ERD and copy ALL to a memory stick.
