synchronization & offline folder

Frodo

Hi,

I would like to force synchronization of folders in windows 2003 server to
local domain users so that their desktop/notebook get the latest info
whenever they login and these folders avail in offline mode too.

Thanks in adv for your sharing & info.

Frodo,
To do that you need to:
Use Group Policy to administratively assign the Offline Files folder (but
don't do this if you are actually talking about redirected Special folders
like My Documents)
Use Group Policy to force a synchronization at logon (however I think it is
more usual to do it at logoff)

In addition to Anthony's suggestion, and to extrapolate on it, please read
the following article. I hope it is helpful.

Logon and logoff or the user will not have up to date info while logged on.

There are 10 types of people, those that understand binary and those that don't.

Hi Dave,
You can of course do both if you want to. The difference is that:
- at logoff if you don't do a full synchronization you simply won't have any
work you have done available offline. There is no cache of changes made
while online.
- at logon, if you happened to make any changes while offline, you will be
prompted to synchronise anyway because the Offline cache keeps a note of any
changes. If there aren't any changes it will not prompt, and you would not
need to synchronise.
So you can save a bit of time at logon by not requiring a full
synchronisation.

I did not know that, thanks. However there is still the possibility that changes
have been made to the online copy from a different PC where it is common to hot
desk.
