Home Share Migration

Hi All,

We are currently in a planning process to migrate our Windows File Servers
to a NetApp solution.

We have a number of home shares (3) that our users utilized, what would be
the best solution in modifying their home share to point to it's new
location?

I believe consolidating all 3 home shares into one and just modifying their
Home Folder to one location would be the easiest.

If I use RichCopy or Robocopy, it would retain their NTFS permission, so
that wouldn't be a problem.

Thoughts?

Select them all in ADUC and right-click/properties, and you should be able
to change the path to \\newserver\home$\%username%

I'm hoping you aren't sharing out individual folders for each user.

Yes, I would use robocopy and the /sec switch.

Also consider ditching home directories. Those are a pretty archaic concept
now. Simple folder redirection of My Docs (and if possible, Desktop & App
Data) via GPO is a lot more seamless.
