Windows 7 ADM Files

Hi All,

Is Windows 7 compatible with Active Directory from Server 2003? Are there
new .adm template files ?

I'm trying to work out, if upgrading to 2008 is a requirement in order to
support Windows 7 clients.

Thanks

Adrian

Hello Adrian,

On the Windows 7 client install RSAT for Windows 7:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...05-4e344e43997d

now you can manage GPOs from the Windows 7 machine. No upgrade is required.

Best regards

Hi Meinolf,

Could've sworn I replied to this but I am having NNTP problems...

This question is about Assigning GPO - TO - windows 7 clients, not
admin a server from Windows 7. So in the same way as I assign policies
out to XP clients.

I know in Vista that .admx files came into play, but never really
understood them or what you had to copy and where..

Hello Adrian,

You can configure GPOs for 2008 or vista/windows 7 from a windows 7 workstation
with RSAT installed. Then open Control Panel, Programs and features, Turn
windows features on or off, check the tools you like under "Remote Server
Administration Tools"

Dude, why the attitude??

If you understood the reponse, Meinolf's saying that to gain benefits of the
GPOs settings for Windows 7, you have to create and administer the GPOs from
a 2008 or Windows 7 machine, NOT from a 2003 machine. Period.

Age old question? Sounds like a preamie because the thing hasn't been
officially released yet to the public?

We are here trying to help others, and sometimes it's difficult when
responding with a solution that the original poster doesn't understand.

Adrian,

I mentioned 'original poster' in my response to Steve's childish response to
Meinolf. After I sent it and looked at the thread, I noticed Steve wasn't
the original poster. So I didn't mean you in that case, rather I meant that
for Steve. Sorry for any misconception!

:)
