Server 2008 R2 Print Drivers.

I'm setting up a small print server using Server 2008 R2 and have a few
older HP printers where they do not supply 2008 x64 drivers, I'm thinking of
using Vista x64 drivers in there place, presumably this won't cause any
problems? As far as I can recall they are both technically the same?

Thanks, Andrew.

Many of the newer older HP LaserJet class Server 2008 drivers will prompt to
be reinstalled when a default registry value that HP sets does not fall into
a specific range they expect.

If you get the Vista / Server 2008 from the Windows update site
http://catalog.update.microsoft.com/v7/site/Home.aspx

pick the version 6.1.7233.0 drivers.

If you also get the x86 version of the print drivers the easiest way to
install them is remotely FROM a machine running x86 Windows 7.

If the Vista x64 drivers install fine without the prompt for reinstall when
you open the UI, then just install those drivers. HP did not update the 4Si
and that "era" in the Vista time frame.

Yes they are the same but not included in Windows 7 / Server 2008 R2 due to
size on the DVD.
