Internet Icon Connection

My internet Icon connection suddenly has droped
down to 42,667 bps from 50,667 bps since the last day or two.
There is no change has been carried out to the os WinMe.
No additions or any removal.
Any help to improve it would be appreciated?

Your connection speed is dependent on a number of factors primarily the
condition of your telephone line and also the weather. Since you are
using dial-up check your internal wiring and also check any other devices
or phones you have plugged in to other phone sockets/extensions. The
speed with which you connect to your ISP has little to do with your PC as
such but instead is mostly influenced by the line between you and the
exchange. Perhaps a BT engineer has been working in his green box
(cabinet) at the end of the road and disturbed the wiring going to your
property.

I had a connection that was I believe regularly 53,300 and
occasionally higher and when we had heavy rains it would drop some.
One time though the storm knocked out the power and phone service and
when the phone service was restored it never got above something like
28,000 . Very disappointing.
Now have cable and I wish I would have done that long before.
