2003 Server - Prints sometimes disappear when printer runs out of paper

Hi,

I've got an intermittent printing problem on my Windows 2003 server.
Users running Windows XP Pro send prints to the print queue, but if the
printer is out of paper, the prints sometimes just disappear. No errors
appear in the event log.

Has anyone ever experienced this, and if so, have you found a
solution?

Many thanks,
Jon

the jobs will be deleted from the server once all the data arrives at the
printer. When the job is copied to the memory on the printer, the spooler
has completed it's job. The printer should print the pages in memory
assuming one does not turn off power to the printer when adding paper.

Hi Alan,

Apologies for the delay in responding.

Here's some more info :

Printing working OK until Win2k3 server SP2 Applied.
After SP2 applied, all printers started showing offline.
As a workaround we ran a batch file that stopped and started the
spooler every few minutes. This impacted performance though (the server
runs the SWIFT application).
Applied fix 50095 and edited registry as per instructions in url below
:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/946198

Now prints are *sometimes* lost when the printer runs out of paper.

Regards,
Jon
