Power Users on the Terminal Servers.....I know...I know....

Cary Shultz

Good afternoon!

I am pretty well versed with Terminal Server (well, fairly well versed) and
have a question regarding Power Users seeing all printers and other users
session printers....I am well aware that this is by design. Unfortunately,
they run QuickBooks from the Terminal Server (the client - side....the
server - side is installed on the application server) so this select group
of people need to be Power Users (this is ultimately the crux...if I could
figure out how to get that to work this issue would go away)..

They are having issues understanding that they are going to see all of the
session printers. One of the users deletes everything except for the two
printers that she needs. Shot of modifying the permissions on the printers
(there are only 10 in total....so not that tragic) is there a way to make it
so that the members of the Power Users do not see all of the session
printers?

Thanks,

Cary

Nope, and it's a futile pursuit. Just fix the permissions so you don't need
to make the users administrators (because that's what power users are -
there's virtually no difference).

I've been able to make Quickbooks run fine as a normal user by granting
Users "modify" rights on %programfiles%\intuit\Quickbooks,
%programfiles%\common files\intuit\quickbooks, and HKLM\software\intuit and
subkeys/folders of all. You can google this as it's a common request
(Intuit is notorious for this kind of sloppy code).

Lanwench,

I agree....it is futile but they are a very good client so I go the extra
five miles for them. And, you nailed what I missed....the common files is
what I missed...I *thought* that I knew all the keys as I used to do this a
lot (some three or four years ago). And, I agree.....Intuit is really
sloppy.
