MS are recommending TweakVi from Total Idea so perhaps they are in no
hurry to produce their own. There is a cut down free version of TweakVi.

TweakUI was a voluntary effort by some Microsoft programmer of their free
time. That is why it was unsupported by Microsoft. Maybe the programmers who
initiated TweakUI under Windows XP are no longer at Microsoft or it could be
that their "free" time is otherwise used to greater advantage.

I've not seen anything officially from MS other than "not yet" (with the
obvious caveat that nobody, yours truly included, sees everything that MS
puts out). Was this from a formal accouncement, somebody's MS blog, or
what?

TweakVI is garbage.
does not work half right.
nothing in the free version that is not already available in vista.
gotta pay for the upgrade one to get possibly anything worthwhile.

AND THE AUTHOR HAS A BAD ATTITUDE.

worse of all it plays on the good name of TweakUI to try and get users.

That is very unusual.

Yes - I just tried it and it is everything I try to avoid - troublesome to
install, messed up the system by more or less insisting that User Account
Control be turned off and has an ugly and garish user interface, with text
so sharpened that it is degraded and uncomfortable to look at. In its favour
it seems to have uninstalled without leaving permanent damage!

By contrast the original TweakUI was well behaved and I still miss it -
mainly because it sorted out the drive letters. XQDC X-Setup Pro is well
designed and gets on fine with Vista.

It's Microsoft ( 'the Official magazine') and it's a recommendation.
I thought the free version didn't add that much and the installation and
startup are irksome.
Running in classic mode I have got three handy stop/restart/standby
buttons in quickstart but not a lot more.

if you had so much trouble with it, then why ever suggest anyone use it.

It is not the official Microsoft Publication. If you read the bottom small print on the page itself which states the following

I have just remembered Fresh UI from:-

http://www.freshdevices.com/

Their web site says:-

Fresh UI is a fresh solution for configuring and optimizing
Windows. Loaded with hundreds of useful settings for
Windows Vista/XP/2000/ NT4/98/95/Me, it covers the
customizing techniques that you'll be glad to know.
This software is 100% free, no banner, no spyware

Has anyone used it with Vista? If so how good was it?

I have used it with XP and was waiting to see when they updated it for
Vista. I downloaded it
a couple of days ago however have not had time to install it yet.
