Whomever is keeping this company in business, all of the buyers being

Windows users, of course. There must be a lot of buyers or the company

would go out of business.

The "company" could be some guy in his garage and therefore needs only a few

sales to purchase beer and girlie magazines. 13 million Ubuntu users you

say? Not on your life! Maybe over the years 13 million have downloaded

that INFERIOR OS, but most have ditched it within the first few days. Get

over it.

Ubuntu sucks.

doing this for almost three years. You should be happy. Now you can have

more than one work space and still run that SHITTY Windows 7!

No, you have to live with your lies. Good luck with that. Ubuntu is

written specifically for Windows users. If you want to get geeky,

install slackware.

BFD. A woman and her friend. HA HA HA. Sorry but Windows 7 is a great OS.

Microsoft did it right this time. Ubuntu on the other hand is still

struggling to get off the ground and has been for years. Did you know that

Ubuntu is free and still is on less than one percent of the desktops out

there? Must be a pretty shitty product to keep such low numbers. Most

people who know about Ubuntu, know the truth and they ditch Ubuntu within a

day or two.

Get over it.

Ubuntu is written specifically for geeks who can't get laid and losers like

yourself who can't afford to purchase Microsoft products.

I've yet to find any real use for the cube effect.

I can put a lot of open programs on the taskbar.

I've shown people the cube with the fishbowl and gears, they kinda roll

their eyes and say "what's it for?"

What a crack-up, people always cloning superior things FOR

Winders.(Compiz envy? OSX envy?)

Problem usually is in my testing, the resources takes a pretty good hit

thus slowing things down, and the more 3rd party effects you install in

Winders, the worse it gets including crashes. On this humble test

machine which is an older 2.8ghz no HT w/ 2gb mem, an older Nvidia card

and running Compiz, it doesn't take much of a hit on resources at all,

things still run snappy. Can't say that about effect stuff ADDED to

Winders. Heck, even Winders own Areo requires much more than this lowly

machine to run it. People are quick to slam Compiz as "eye candy" and

yes granted some of it is, but Flip 3D isn't much better. Flip 3D is not

much more than eye candy as it is slow and cumbersome compared to Scale

in Compiz for task switching. And in Win7 MS STILL left out native hot

corners. Talk about LAME. One has to use a 3rd party hot corner program

to make Flip 3D at all worth using, sucking up valuable resources as usual.

I have Win7 installed on this machine which does run pretty good, but of

course, NO Aero possible which is ok. ..BUT because DricetX 9 isn't

possible on here, yep, if I do ANY elevated video it crashes. (Games

etc) One would think that if it detects a non compliant DirectX 9 card

it could automatically revert to a lower ver and avoid crashes. NOPE.

Linux OTOH WILL detect video that is not compliant for special effects

and just run in Non Effects mode, meaning no effects at all, but STILL

runs with NO crashes. Gotta appreciate that, as at least one still can

do stuff without worrying when the next crash will happen.

The Cube? I have NO use for it. One can do and change virtual desktops

in Linux without the cube bit. The cube to me IS pretty much just a

fancy eye candy way to switch between virtual desktops that can be done

faster and easier the "normal" way. However as one that appreciates thus

likes eye candy, I concentrate that part on the unbelievably EASY

desktop theme switching. No longer do I have to stare at the same,(UGLY

MS XP ring a bell??), theme year in and year out. If I get bored with

one theme, I can change to another one in a few minuets or less

depending on the level of change. Do that in Winders, (Vista/Win7), and

I mean more than change the color of the opaque borders, we are talking

about a makeover in minuets, seconds even! Don't EVEN talk about themes

one can ADD to Winders as again, Winders usually takes a resource hit

and you have to dangerously mess around with the inner workings and HOPE

it all works, believe me, I have checked into it for Vista and Win7.

Talk about useless things as "Death" stated about the cube How about in

Win7 and mousing over the RH side of the task bar to make open windows

see-through? I have yet to find that useful in ANY way so far, and that

is from Beta to RTM to now. What's the point? All I could do is laugh,

wondering what brainiac came up with that. I maintain that MS should

have adopted Compiz/OSX LIKE similarities and taken the hit on "coping"

accusations. Most people could care less about the coping bit, (And most

wouldn't know the difference anyway), but instead would LOVE MUCH better

productivity enhancing desktop effects as in Compiz and/or OSX. I just

laugh my ass off when I read how proud MS is with it's latest effects in

Win7. To me after using the best part of Compiz for productivity, (NOT

eye candy), Aero desktop effects is a joke.

Some add-ons can be handy, remember BigDesk (Win 3.1 and 3.11), simple and

effective. Under DOS resource hits were a damn sight more significant, but

who could have lived without Sidekick back then. The 'flaming rotating

logo' stuff is just put in for fashion victims and helps hide the fact that

most new OS's have very little new, or useful, in them.

Over the years I have used a number of commercial and freeware programs to

get the OS to do things it was not designed to do, in Vista I use a freeware

'find' utility because I cannot be bothered with the Microsoft

implementation (although that's fine for average home users if they bother

to learn how it works, most don't). Under Vista I gave up and added a folder

to the desktop with links to the stuff I use in it (about 15 or so links),

open that when I start and I can just Alt Tab to fire something up when I

need it.

I'm here these days to pre-learn about Win 7 as it's likely I'll end up

having to support it for some of our clients (varied bunch, we see just

about every OS going, only a year or so back I had to shift a load of data

off an old Amstrad CPM based machine for a local firm). Doubtless some will

turn on all the flaming rotating logos they can, have the machine making

animal noises when it does things, insist on pointless animated

notifications etc. That's fine if it's just a home PC, but for actual

productive work the first thing to do is turn everything off that you can.

I spent some time trying to sort out under-clocking, the idea being to

reduce the PSU fan noise for a unit that serves as a juke box, the box ran

98SE with just a simple 'directory player' (1-by-1) on it to handle the 40GB

drive of MP3's - this was widely considered to be a heresy. Eventually gave

up and fixed up a discarded IBM Thinkpad as they will run well with no

battery in them, same OS/directory player. Works well. Horses for courses.

same here...

i can only think this:

for new users, the cube provides a more easy way to understand the virtual

desktops.

believe it or not, virtual desktops induces some confusion on new users that

evolved from windows to kde or gnome.
