WDS Legacy Not Working after SP2

J

John

After applying SP2 to our W2K3 server, I was unable to get the WDS server to
start by initiating WDS Legacy. In the event viewer, we keep getting the same
2 errors:

1) An error occurred when trying to initialize provider BINLSVC from
SYS32\binlsvc.dll. Error information: 0x6e

2) An error occurred trying to start WDS service. Error information: 0x6e

Not much other info. than that. I checked into the article that matched
closest....928645. But, I could find anything wrong following those steps.
Any other ideas or suggestions?

Thx,
John

Hi John,

Can you try removing WDS and reinstall WDS through Add/remove programs?

I'm having much the same problem!

Problem Description: I have an XP Image I am trying to dpeloy via SMS OSD
(and BDD 2007) through WDS. So I need to get WDS Legacy running. I can get
WDS Native installed but this is only for deployment of Vista.

I am trying to get WDS Legacy running on a SMS 2003 Sp3 box on a Windows
2003 R2 Std OS. I run through the GUI install but it fails at DHCP
authorisation saying it could not authorise the server. The SMS server is
authorised and I even installed DHCP on the same box and authorised itself.
However if you got to DHCP and look for Authorised servers it doesn't show
any at all. Should you try and authorise the server it says it is authorised
however.

The install failure seems linked to this error code

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/938612/en-us

I have uninstalled WDS and reinstalled. I've also tried installing it on a
different server. I have tired to install it maybe 10 times now. I rolled
back to SP1 and tried installing RIS this failed but I was able to get the
RIS service to start so it worked.

The problem with WDS is that I can't start the service once it fails. It is
there but I get error codes 257, 513 and 7024 in the Event Log with an error
information code of 0xC1050702

the display message is "windows could not start the WDS service on the local
computer please review the system event log. If this is a non-MS service
please contact the vendor and refer to service-specific error code
-1056635134"

I have searched on the MS website and googled the error and I can not find
any information. I'm really hoping someone can help!
