problems with chkdsk on start up and PerfDisk warnings

For the past week or so every time I start win2000 (+ SP 4) Disk check

runs - finds no problems. I have looked at all the suggestions in

various forums and cnecked the reg settings but can find nothing

wrong. However I notice that for about the same period of time I have

been getting warnings about disk performance information being

unavailable.

Could these conditions be connected? Of course it's the disk check

that really bothers me - is it best to disable it?

At a command prompt issue the following command:

chkntfs /d

and then reboot and see if things change. If things don't change boot

to the Recovery Console and run chkdsk /r on the drive and then see if

things change.

To disable the disk performance counters at a command prompt issue:

diskperf -n

then reboot the machine.

Well I will try your suggestions John, but before that I have a new

problem.

I looked at removing the autocheck autochk* string in Boot Execute in

Reg. just to test it if needs changing, but typed the string back in

before exiting. Now on boot up it shows the disk check disabled - yet

the string is still shown there in Reg! (using regedit32). When I use

regedit there is another default string shown above the boot execute -

(REG_SZ type, with no data set). I don't recall seeing that earlier.

I suppose I could just leave it alone and let the disabled notice run

each time but at least before I had the option of running or

cancelling chkdsk at boot.

BTW I am using FAT32 so will that command still apply?

You must use regedt32.exe with windows 2000 since regedit.exe can not work

with multi-string values in registry.
