Got that virus which inserts a window into my browsers (Opera and Firefox),

suggesting to send a SMS somewhere to get e removal code - how is this virus

called and what are the remedies?

If you want to know for sure what is going on, provide more details of

exactly what the message says. It must say something more that send a

SMS message somewhere.



If you think it is malicious software, then start here:



Perform some scans for malicious software, then fix any remaining

issues:



Download, install, update and do a full scan with these free malware

detection programs:



Malwarebytes (MBAM): http://malwarebytes.org/

SUPERAntiSpyware: (SAS): http://www.superantispyware.com/



They can be uninstalled later if desired.



When the scans run clean, if you still have the message and provide

the exact text of the message, we can figure out what it is all about

and fix it.

What anti-virus application or security suite is installed and is your

subscription current? What anti-spyware applications (other than Defender)?

What third-party firewall (if any)?



Has a(another) Norton or McAfee application ever been installed on the

computer (e.g., a free-trial version that came preinstalled when you bought

it)?

which I got from outside and which should not be there.

Just like with a human you you can't call a bacterial or parasitical infection a virus,

the same goes with computers.



Its not what YOU think it is, it is what is based upon a declaration made by an authority.



In the case of a human, that authority wold be a doctor declaring you are infected with

_____.



The authority in a computer is a reuptable software which will scan the machine and made a

declaration. In the case of a computer you can say you *may* be infected with malware.

Just like you a human may walk into a doctor's office and say you think you have an

infection.



Now, what software have you used to determine what is going on with your sick PC ?

If you don't like my other idea about MBAM and SAS or don't want to or

can't type in the exact message you see so we don't have to imagine

what it says, then post a screenshot of what you see and some other

person might give you some other ideas:



To create and post a screenshot:



Press the Print Scrn button to copy your entire screen to the Windows

clipboard.



Press Alt Print Scrn to copy just the active window to the Windows

clipboard.



Open MS Paint:



Start, Program Accessories, Paint



When Paint opens, press CTRL-V to paste the clipboard, save the new

Paint file to your desktop or someplace you can remember. JPG files

take up less hard disk space than BMP files and just as readable.



Make as many screenshots as you need. Practice makes perfect. Be

careful your screenshot does not contain any personal information.

Practice viewing your images before you upload them to be sure they

are okay.



Some sites let you upload screenshots into your post. You cannot

upload screenshots here.



If there is no such function in your message board to upload files,

then use a free third party image hosting WWW site.



Create a free account on some free picture hosting web site. You can

always remove your account later if you want. Here are some free

image hosting sites:

Using your free account, upload your screenshot(s) (the JPG or BMP

files) to the site and it will return to you a URL web address (a

Direct Link) for your new image(s) which you can paste the Direct Link
