Add/Remove Programs

P

Palula Brasil

Hi guys,

When I try to Remove some programs within my Microsoft Windows 2000 machine,

a weird thing happens. The screen shows the add/remove icon in the start

bar, but when I click it, the window doesn´t appear.

I tried to start the machine in secure mode but windows always tries to

establish a network login and the Domain Controller machine is being

repaired. I´m trying to re-install Oracle 8 on the machine and thje

installation can only be done after the uninstallation of the previous

version.

Can anybody help?

Thank you!

This means that the Oracle-supplied uninstall process is failing. I would

check the Oracle FAQ pages - they probably have a general clean-out program

that removes all old versions, regardless of version.

That happened here before ... minimize all other windows, then check the

upper left screen for the Add/Remove window which may have gotten re-sized

to a mere few pixels.

You may have to select the taskbar icon to be sure the Add/Remove window is

selected.

Also bear in mind that there is most probably an "uninstall.exe" that exists

in the Oracle directory structure, and you can always execute that file from

the command line or the GUI file manager.

I think that Windows has a problem becaus I can´t uninstall ANY software at

all. The Remove Software Window doesn´t appear -- there should be a windows

with a list of softwares for me to uninstall.

Checked that too and searched for the string "unins" within oracle´s folder

tree. No file has been found. :(

I tried clicking and even Alt+Tabbed windows until the add/remove programs

window was selected and tried Alt+Space to reveal the

restore|remove|resize|minimize|maximize|close box. But nothing happened,

sounds to me that the window is going through problems, and not hiding. :)

Also possibly search the key

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall

for the uninstall string.

The problem was solved using the Oracle Installer software and I managed to

uninstall and re-install the software correctly.

Thank you for your help.

It was very appreciative.
