view large icons not sticking

My friend has his desktop icons filed in folders, such as video, audio,

and so on (i. e. he has lots of video-editing prog.s' icons inside a

desktop folder called "video" - keeps the desktop tidier).



He likes his normal Explorer window to show files in the "details" mode,

but when he opens one of these desktop folders, he wants them to come up

in "large icons" mode. In Explorer, he has "keep each folder's settings"

ticked.



When he opens one of these desktop folders, it comes up in a small mode

- I can't remember if it's list or details, but it certainly isn't large

icons. He changes it, and it will generally remain for the rest of that

XP session, but not through a reboot.

May be an issue with not having enough "storage spots" for each of the

folders viewed. By default IIRC XP will only store 400 remembered folders

view settings and then will start to overwrite the folder view settings. To

ensure that this is not the case download and run Tweak UI from Microsoft's

PowerToys.

Once run and installed go to Programs, Microsoft PowerToys for XP and start

Tweak UI. Click the + next to Explorer and then click Customizations.

Change the default number to 4000 and then OK out. Reboot the computer

(even though it is not supposed to matter.) Go back in and set the folder

view the way it is desired and see if it "takes" this time.
