Want to redisplay a warning that I turned off

B

Bill

Hi All,

I was getting the message telling me that my display had been set to Windows

7 Basic or something and I clicked the option not to redisplay the message.

I would like to turn it back on but can't see how.

Can anyone help please?

Thanks for any help.

I would assume you modified the registry via Regedit or changed Group

Policy regarding notifications using the Local GP Editor to disable pop-up

balloon notifications. There is no specific Windows user setting that

disables this notification. If you have Windows 7 Ultimate, Professional or

Enterprise, hit Windows-R and type gpedit.msc to run the editor. It goes

without saying that doing this type of modification should be in your

comfort zone. Go to User Configuration \ Administrative Templates \ Start

Menu and Taskbar and on the left side under settings scroll down to the

notification check and double click to change the setting.

Win 7 Home Premium has gpedit.msc disabled and you will have to edit the

registry manually or import a registry setting. The one below is for Vista

but it is identical in location and function for Windows 7.

I can't remember ever seeing a message like that in Windows 7.

When did it appear and whereabouts on the screen did it appear?

Was it a Windows 7 dialog box or some other software?

Hi, Bill.

Are you running the "Starter Edition" of Win7 that comes on many netbooks

and other new computers?

Did the message actually use that word "basic" ???

Sounds to me Windows was (is ?) saying that it was using the 'basic'

Display driver rather than the full graphic card driver you would get from

the cards manufacture's site.

Windows does this when we start it in Safe Mode & when its 1st installed.

Why do you want to get the message back ???

Reinstall your graphic card drivers perhaps....

or if everything is OK just forget it.

The message has nothing to do with the basic display driver. It's a standard

system message you get when the software in question does not know how to

make use of the Windows 7 display driver model. It's called a pop-up

balloon and if they have been disabled by the user as I previously described

then they must be reset the way I described.

Below is one example of such a message..
