I'm have the exact same issue listed just above. My computer will connect to my home network just fine. It will allow me to log into MSN Messenger Live, and check e-mail through the little mini-browser window, but when I go to open IE or Firefox it says unable to access internet. If I diagnose the problem with my network, it says I am already connected to the internet. I'm getting "Local and Internet" in the bottom right hand corner. I've gone through the list of what to have checked and not checked from proxy servers to enabling the wireless hardware to operate regardless of power setting. I was thinking it was maybe a hardware issue until I was able to use MSN Messenger just fine.
Unrelated (maybe) but potentially helpful diagnostically... I travel a lot and use hotel wireless for work. On the last one I couldn't "find" the wireless network that was being broadcast on my laptop, even though I could find it on my smart phone and my iPod. I've had problems in the past trying to log into some wireless connections that were unsecured, but in the meantime have been able to connect to my home internet throughout my ownership of the laptop until just recently, right after I got home from this trip where I was not able to find the hotel wireless connection. Any ideas would be very helpful

My system uses Vista and a wireless internet. Usually I have no problem opening web pages using IE and Mozilla. BUT Periodically (I'd say 4 times a day), I am suddenly unable to open any web pages using either browser, but I am still connected to the internet, and have no problem with Skype, AOL IM, MSN Messenger, and other softwares.
Is anyone else suffering from this problem? Is there a fix to it? Your comments are highly appreciated...

single update that it took before I shut it down this morning. But at lunch

Okay, so it's not a problem that has been there since installation or since
you purchased the PC but is happening randomly.
The next time it happens, on the Start Menu, go to All
Programs\Accessories\System Tools and click Internet Explorer (No Add-ons)
and see if the browser then connects. If yes, this is likely tied to a
browser add-on. The next time the problem appears, you need to disable
add-ons one by one until you find the one that is randomly blocking access.
To disable add-ons, I'm assuming you are using Internet Explorer as your
browser, go to Control Panel, open Internet Options, go to the Programs tab,
click Manage Add-ons, then disable them one by one, checking to see if the
browser will than connect after each one until you find the add-on causing
the problem.

Well, there were security updates in the last couple of days that might be a
source of the issue but I'm dubious. I usually set auto-update to "Let me
choose which updates" but that???s primarily to allow me to make the choice
not to install an update if I hear there were problems with it. If such
problems exist, you usually see it show up in these newsgroups pretty
fast.
Also, it's not customary for Microsoft to push an update that is a browser
add-on. Those usually have to be installed by user choice so I'd start with
the add-ons as I previously suggested.
