MOM (Microsoft Operations Manager) is basically a product that acts as a
central repository for event monitoring & data analysis of your network and
applications i.e. Exchange and SQL management packs allow you to monitor
specifics of Exchange and SQL i.e. health, event logs, general stats, etc.

See the following MOM data sheet from the MS website that should give you an
idea of what MOM is capable of doing for you.

Hi,

While what Pieman says is correct, it should be noted that MOM doesn't do
all that much and what it does do, it doesn't do very well. HUGE
improvements have been made to it as it has been reincarnated as SCOM 2007.
If you are looking for management and monitoring look there.
