Easy Transfer crashing

Hello all... I am trying to transfer files from an xp desktop to a vista
laptop via a Belkin cable and have not managed to get through the process
without easy transfer crashing.

First time I tried to transfer the whole shebang and had to leave and come
back during th process. When I returned, there was a message on the vista
machine saying that the process failed.

Second time I transfered just the settings and my files, not other user
accounts, and that failed. Third time I tried to transfer just the settings
file and it hung up on one file for an hour (c:\all users\app data\ms\win
nt\ms fax\sent items\s-1... so, I decided to shut it down and try a gain.
Problem is now that the vista machine is stuck on the Closing Easy Transfer
Window. I have been at this for many many hours now!

Any pointers? Clearly something is off but I'm not sure where to start
troubleshooting. Thanks in advance,

Amy

The above link is for easy transfer advice.
I am not a big believer in it it's more hit and miss.

I prefer to copy to CD to transfer documents, and redo user settings on Vista.

Agreed. I could never get it to work as it always hung about an hour into
the process.

I used a thumb drive for most of it, before I finally remembered my
external HD. Duh!
