Hello snakesboy,

Did you check that the tape is compatible with the tapedrive? I had this
with a HP Library, it was only able to reed old tapes and for writing i needed
a newer version of the tape.

Best regards

Hy, I had a problem like this one in a Windows 2003 server and it was solved
following these steps:
1) Stop the RSM process
2) Rename the directory c:\windows\system32\NtmsData to OldNtmsData
3) Start the RSM process and wait the tape library finish its inventory.
Don't use any other management software to acess the library. It may put the
library in a loop process when used together with RSM.

After the inventory has been concluded, go to NTBackup utility and try to
backup something.

In my case, I'm still trying to solve the restore problem, it gives me the
message:

Restore Status
Operation: Restore

Error: The device reported an error on a request to read data from media.
Error reported: Hardware failure.
There may be a hardware or media problem.
Please check the system event log for relevant failures.

I hope this helps you.

Joe.
