Windows 8 windows update error 80096002

So i know that there is an issue with WSUS servers and installing a patch to correct it on the WSUS server.
My issue is that the check online for updates never works again. I have removed the keys from the registry and it no longer looks to the WSUS server for updates but it still gives the error 80096002
