After multiple other issues: lock screen accepts no input. No way of logging in

Hi,
I only yesterday upgraded my Windows Vista HP PC to Windows 8 Pro and to be honest it was nothing but trouble up to now, for on like every second reboot there appears to be some random problem what I've encountered so far:
- Damaged iso (I had to redownload the product so I could install it)
- Sudden driver incompatibility (on the 3rd reboot suddenly I got a black screen before reaching the lock screen, after endless messing around with the BootCD and some research I finally found the latest Nvidia driver to be to blame (although it worked fine
the last two times), so using a modification of this trick I found (I'd post the link if I was allowed to) I managed to un- and reinstall it in Windows 7 compatibility mode (the trick involves modifying C:BootBCD to feature a second OS, so the selection
screen including options such as safemode shows up)
- Locked Desktop-App (when I tried to start Windows Update it launched into the taskbar(?, whats the correct term for that btw?) on the left side of the screen, nothing else happened, all I could do is right-click and end it, afterwards I was locked on the
start screen, I could still start apps and see them in the preview but no matter what, I could not switch back into the Desktop-App, nor start any &quotoutside-of-the-desktop-app&quot-apps or -settings. Funny thing is, it was fixed after I tried to log off
(notepad's &quotsave changes?&quot-dialog prevented that from actually happening))
- now thet I finallygot all the apps I need, most of the settings set:
I can't log on, as starting with the OS-selection screen (where I get to choose from the actual Windows 8 or my manually created copy with safemode enabled) Windows won't accept any input whatsoever (neither using USB-, nor PS/2- mouse/keyboard). All of which
are fully functional, as all of them work fine in the BIOS and the BootCD.

Please let me know if you have any idea on how to solve this, after all this I just want to start using Windows 8 finally. (Also let me know if you need any additional information on my system :) )

PS: also if this happens to be in the wrong forum, feel free to move to where it belongs )
