Monitor falls asleep.

This is a weird problem I haven't been able to figure out on my windows 8 computer.. When my computer is at the login screen the monitor will fall asleep and sometimes the computer itself will fall asleep too.. How can i stop this so
just the screensaver comes up? (It only happens at the login screen.)
