Why is my desktop computer shutdown to sleep mode so frequently?.
It occured sometimes several times a day or night. It shutdowns consecutively, randomly at any hour of time of day or night. There was no prompting to me even when I was using the computer. The monitor is blank. My computer nevers switch down. It is turned
on 24/7 - 24 hrs and 7 days, 365 days.
It occured like this:
1. You can hear the exhaust fan of the computer shutdown suddenly. There was no prompting. You can hear computer quieted down suddenly. The exhaust fan can be seen from the back of the ventilation grille of the computer's CPU of metal casing.
2. The monitor screen suddenly shutdown. The screen went blank. The pilot light on the bottom of the monitor screen is still lighted up. It showed the monitor screen is running and on.
3. When you look at the pilot light on the computer, it is still lighted up. It showed the computer was still on and runnig. It was in sleep, though. It showed the computer CPU went into sleep mode.
4. Whenever this shutdown happens, I would shutdown the computer and restart the computer from scratch. I pressed the start/stop button of the computer to shut it down.
5. I then pressed again the start/stop button to restart the computer, and reboot the computer, and then when it comes back to life, I clicked to restore the sessions, and then I continue the use of the computer again.
6. The process of restarting the computer has been like this, as the shutdowns have been on-going like this for five months and is still like this, as I was unable to solve them. The contact point in the start/stop button is not sensitive anymore as pressing
is frequent.
7. I have changed the VGA cable as I was told by a computer hardware shop that my problem could be due to the VGA cable is old, as the copper wire in the VGA cable that feeds from the computer to the monitor screen may be broken or kinked, and thus the video
signals are not stable to feed the data to the monitor screen.
8. Even though I do not think this was the case, as my cable has never touched the floor, or cluttered or kicked or broken, I still went ahead to change the existing VGA 15-pin cable of 3 years old with a new one as it was only cost 3 bucks - the cheapest
range I found in the shop..
9. However, even though the VGA cable is changed, the shutdown is still the same, as before.
10. On another month, I was told by my friend that I should change the setting in the computer from going into sleep mode.
11. The changed setting was made at Start/Program/ System and Security/ Power Option/Power Plan/High Performance/ "Turn off the display" at "Never", and "Put the computer sleep" at "Never".
12. Even though I changed the setting from "Balanced (recommended)" to "High Performance", and the two high performance setting was changed to "Never", the computer still shutdown to sleep mode, and as usual, no prompting, the monitor screen went blank.
13. It seems the "Power Option" and "Power Plan" and "Balanced" or "High Performance" in Window 7 is not working. Window 7 is not responding in my computer.
14. Every time I restarted and rebooted the computer, it is some time normal to see the operating system repairing the sudden shutdown files, before can be back to starting in normal Window operating conditon.
15. For information,
My computer is not a branded one. It was customised and installed. It was bought two or three years ago. The 350 GB hard disk usage is 50 percent used. The computer in the past goes into sleep when there was no movement of the mosue for 15 minutes, or when
not in use. It wakes up again when he mouse is moved to restart the CPU and to light up the monitor screen.
Now there was problem with this kind of sudden shutdown that never wake up its sleep mode again in the past five month, which I think it was several virus attack in the email files in the past months, and when very likely I downloaded from CNET some cleaners
or anti-spyware. I don't know which problem is the one.
I then removed them a month later from the program/Control Panel/Uninstalled Program. On the advice of my friend, I then changed to AVG free download version.
16. The information in the computer, Start/Program/Computer/Properties, gives the following information:
It is Intel Core Due E7500 @ 2.93 Ghz, 4 Gb Ram, 32 bit operating system, Window 7 Home Premium, 2009.
It is protected with Microsoft firewalll protection, and is installed with fre download AVG anti-virus protection. It is shown at Start/Program/System and Security/ Firewall/ - and it says "Window firewall Stat" is "on".
17, Finally, with the above information, I would sincerely ask the Microsoft community to help solve this shutdown problem. I would to thank everyone in the community who can help me in advance here.
18. I hope to hear your solutions from you. Thank you.
