File size limit for bkf file?

O

Okramo

Hi,

I have Win2k3 server operating system with two partitions.

I'am planing to make backup of all data which my server contains -
there is about 25GB files.

My plan is to use MS Backup tool, which stores all data in one *.bkf
file.

I suppose that tool will make *.bkf file large about 17-20 GB. Is that
possible?

What is the maximum size of *.bkf file?

Thanks

The maximum size is determined by your file system - 4 GBytes for
FAT32 drives, much larger for NTFS drives.

An even more important question is whether it is wise to make
such a huge backup file. There are LOTS of eggs in this single
basket, and it is likely to take you a looooooooooooong time
to retrieve a single file while your users are breathing down your
neck.

Assuming you are backing up to disk, a good alternative solution for
backing up these files would be robocopy.exe, which is a MS Resource
Kit Utility that's available for free download from Microsoft's
website. It's a very useful tool to get familiar with for backing up,
copying, and other common file mgmt tasks. If you are using a tape
drive you'll have to use MS Backup Tool (NTBackup) or some other tape
backup solution.
