My Norton trial just ran out. Do I need to uninstall it in order for Windows Defender to turn on? An

I have a Toshiba Satellite C885 and Windows 8. This is driving me crazy. I have to have virus protection for school and don't know if the windows defender will be good enough. Does anyone know please and how I turn it on?
