Hi,
I am running Windows XP with all the lastest SP and windows updates. I also have MSE and keep it up-to-date.
A day ago I disabled the DCOM by following the info at this link (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/825750) and then disabled the "DCOM Server Process Launcher" from the services tool.
Now my Windows MSE won't update , and I get an error when I try to do so.
I have since undid the DCOM disabling and re-enabled the service, and now MSE works fine (it updates now).
So my question is, why does MSE require the DCOM service to run, as I'd like to disable unneccessary services to close TCP/IP listening ports and improve my computers sercurity.
Thanks,
R.
