Hi,
When I try to boot past the "log on to windows"box, which is on a black screen and I'm the the only user and it says "The system could not log you on. Make sure user name and domain are correct, then type your password again. The letters are case sensitive".
I have a Dell Optiplex GX 280 running XP Professional.I have been trying to fix this for 5 days. I'm using this Dell XPS 8500 to write this. The reason why I need the other p/c is that I'm a photographer and want to dedicate to just that. I know you like to
have as much info to help you help me so here it goes:
* Dell Optiplex 280 (03/03/06)
*Windows XP Professional
*System Info:Bios version=A08, Processor type: Intel Pentium 4CPU 3.80GHz, Bus speed = 800 MHz, L2 cash= 1MB, Hyperthreading capible= yes, 64 Bit technology- no, Memory Info: 4 memory slots and all day: DIMM 1GB,No ECC, Rank 2, Unbuffered X8. Drives:
Diskett Drive, Drive 0 : SATA-0, Drive 1: SATA-2, Drive 2 PATA-0, Drive 3 PATA-1, * SATA Operation, *Smart reporting
* Onboard Devices: Integraded NIC, Integraded Audio, USB controller,Front USB ports, PCI slots, LPT Port Mode, LPT Port Address, Serial Port 1, PEG with force.
* Security: Admin Password, System Password, Chassis Intrusion, Excute Disable.
*Post Behavior: Fast Boot, Numlock Keys, OS Install, Post Hotkeys, Keyboard Errors.
Recorded directly from the Bios, I hope you can use this information. Ok, this is what I tried to do to fix the problem so to help you weed out the try's.
*I put in the recovery disk and the system tells me that their is no bootable device, and I know the system is recognizing the "external cd player because when it boots up I can see the little disk next to the arrow'.My internal drive does not work.
*I tried to boot it up in safe mode, and it boots up in safe mode, I tried the installation cd again and no go.
*I hit the system set up to make sure the drives were in the right order, they are.
* I hit F-12 and hit the onboard USB/ cd-rom drive, no go.
* And by the way none of my security's are enabled.
*And of course I tried one of those "password recovery websites" and it can't boot up in the cd or USB drive(it's saying the USB is not bootable also).
*Mind you if I just turn the p/c on it boots up regular like there's nothing wrong(to the log on windows).
*I went to the users manual and it said I can take the "jumper switch"out that it goes back to factory settings and I can't make a password( I did that). In the bios it says my Admin. and system password are not enabled.
*All I want to do is totally erase the hard drive to make a new install. I looked all over Youtube to see if I could find out what is wrong...nothing. But people tell me in Dell p/c's that if you hit CTL+ F-11 when the Dell screen comes up with the
F_2 or the F-12 options on it that I should hit CTL+F-11...but nothing.
So can anybody tell me how to erase or re-install in my case? I don't have the funds to buy a new hard drive.
Thank you
