1803 Feature Update creates a spurious drive letter assignment

Hello - After the 1803 update, the OEM partition on the system disk has been spuriously assigned drive letter D. This generates periodic low disk space warnings. The assignment cannot be removed from Disk Management. This issue has been reported in other forums and the Feedback Hub but as far as I can see not here. In my case it has affected 1 of 4 machines updated (a Surface 3). My question is: is it safe to remove the drive letter using DISKPART? Thanks...
