I have a Windows 2016 server running Hyper-v with USB Wifi adapters, and everything was working fine. I used USB Wifi adapters because they are only mend for testing purpose. So, I often removed then and plugged them in when I needed to test something.
But a few weeks ago, the adapters do not appear any more in the list of network adapters. Only the LAN adapters can be seen. And the weird thing is in the device manager the USB network adapter are listed and the status is “This device is working properly.” And also, de WLAN service is working without any problems in the eventlog.
I have installed the same Windows 2016 server on different hardware and there the USB Wifi adapters are working as expected.
I also looked in the registry comparing the working Windows with the not working and found differences in for example adapter link settings.
Has anybody experience with this kind of problem, it looks like some settings are missing in the registry. And Windows needs to rebuild it’s Wlan settings. I would like to fix this without having to reinstall Windows Server 2016, which will probably fix the problem.
