Windows 10 expiring, even after I got the free upgrade?

I got Windows 10 back when it was free, and everything was fine for a couple of years until I bought a new SSD for my computer, not sure if that's the issue, but I thought I'd throw that in there. About 9 months later, after the SSD upgrade, I'm now told that my free upgrade isn't free? Is this happening to everyone who got the free upgrade? I know for sure I was the one who downloaded it initially, but I don't know computers well and had a good friend of mine replace my SSD, did he somehow mess up my Windows 10 license?


Edit: I got this upgrade years ago and have no idea what it's talking about when it asks for my "product key".. Why does this have to be so complicated?
