Hi
I am hoping someone from MS can answer this for me. I have a bit of a dilemma.
I had a retail copy of Windows 8.1 which was upgraded to 10 in the free update period.
My computer motherboard has since failed outside of warranty and I have to replace the motherboard and CPU for new models, essentially making a new computer.
Can I activate Windows 10 on the new computer using my previous key?
I have read that retail licenses can be transferred using the deactivation process within Windows, but I have no way of getting into my old version of Windows.
I have installation media (usb created by the Microsoft utility) to help me install Windows on the new computer.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
