Win 10 Fonts

In Win 7 all font variants were shown available for selection. In Win 10, although variants are installed, only one variant is available for selection. It is possible to type in full the variant you want in text docs but not in other programs such as video editors or label printing programs where only one of the family can be selected. Why is this and is there a fix?
