My Windows 10 computer will, from time-to-time, start performing some activity that requires constant disk access. I can see from the task manager that some kind of update is occurring, which occasionally I can override and kill. Besides the noise, my computer becomes less responsive during this activity, and its very annoying when I cannot kill it (or figure out why its doing what it doing).
My Apple Mac does not exhibit this behavior. Whenever my Mac needs updating, I am given a message telling me of potential update(s), and then the MacOS gives me options regarding how to handle these updates, such as delayed installations, or to ignore them. My Mac never performs updates on its own without asking me about it first. I'm in control and the master of my computer.
The difference in behaviors between these two systems seems emblematic of the difference the two companies have in their attitude towards there user base. Apple seems to see the customer as premier, while MS seems to see itself as premier. I'm sure some people prefer the MS approach, but I am not one of them, and I know there are plenty of others out there like me that want to control this.
My suggestion is for MS to offer a choice to users as to whether user acquiescence would be required before update installation is undertake (including even performing update downloads). Actually, I want to control any significant activity that needs computer resources. For your customers who don't want to be bothered by the update notifications, they can allow automatic (un-intervened) updates. But for those of us, lot of us, who want control over our PCs, we need this control feature.
MS, please realize that for many of us, this lack of control over our own computers drives us to despise Windows, and we despise MS for creating such an unfriendly system. You can easily fix this, and your failure to fix this is what drives my of us either Apple and Linux.
