This is a Windows Server 2012 R2 with .NET framework version 4.5.51650 installed.
I have applied all of the updates available through Windows Update and verified that this includes https://support.microsoft.com/en-sg/kb/2919442 and https://support.microsoft.com/en-sg/kb/2919355.
The installer for .NET framework version 4.6.1 runs without error and completes, with the message ".NET framework 4.6.1has been installed.". I am using the offline installer, NDP461-KB3102436-x86-x64-AllOS-ENU.exe.
When I check on the installed version in the registry, HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\NET Framework Setup\NDP\v4\Full, the version number is unchanged at 4.5.51650.
The installer does stop some services in the course of running. If I stop those services before running the installer it does not change the end result.
I suspect I have missed a basic step but I can't see what. Can someone please enlighten me?
