never-set password for "other user"

after the last update on May 8, 2018 Windows 10 is stuck in a loop of trying to boot up - then asks me for a password on "other user". If I don't react to it, it tries to boot up again, with the same result. This has never been set, neither have I had other user or usernames on this computer. How can I get past this? I really don't relish reinstalling everything.
