I had Windows Update set to Semi-Annual Chanel (Targeted) while I tried to install V.S. Community 2017 v15.7 but it only progressed from 14% to 20% overnight! Since Windows Update got stuck on me before, I checked after V.S. 15.7.1 was released but it was still only partially installing.... on May 9th Windows Update gave error code 0x800704c7 but on May 10th and May 13 it changed to 0x80240034! I'm now using the 45 day pause while I attempt corruption repairs with Windows PowerShell (Admin). A couple of times I got "SFC.exe /ScanNow" failures, but "DISM.exe /OnLine /Cleanup-image /RestoreHealth" always gives error 0x800f081f with a link to a web-page for Windows 8 to Windows Server 2012 R2 on specifying a /Source. Tried downloading install media ISOs for versions 1803 & 1709 for x86 & x64 but adding " /Source:esd:i:\sources\install.esd:1 /LimitAccess" didn't accept any. Some recommend exporting install.esd:1 to install.wim and changing the /source accordingly, but for some reason it was taking more than 2 days to get to 30% complete so I gave up and tried the ESD method. I'll try an install.swm from version 1511 overnight just because it's on the Restore USB I have standing by, but I'm running out of ideas on how to avoid wiping its 512 GB SDD and reinstalling all my programs. Maybe I need to scour the DISM.log to identify the specific corrupt files if ESD:1 isn't correct... 7Zip is showing seven numbered folders in the ESD, so maybe the first one that all the help documents I've read used doesn't acutaly contain what went bad on mine???
A few logs are already posted in Visual Studio's Developer Community for those who would like to read them for me before I try to figure them out. Included are Windows Update Troubleshooter results printed to PDF, the SFC's CBS, and DISM.
