I did the April 2018 "critical" update to my I7 HP ENVY. I should have known better! My computer will not boot and I am getting 3 errors. 1 - can't locate c:/windows/system32/config/systemprofile/desktop. On clicking OK I get a blank desktop with a recycle bin and none of the windows start icons in the bottom bar can be either right or left clicked. Basically, nothing works and there is nothing there.
Following some fix advice on the internet and creating a new user I get what looks like my desktop but again all of the windows icons are not responsive. I also get the following errors 1-SIHOST.EXE - Critical Error - Unknown Hard Error. When I select OK I then get EXPLORER.EXE - Critical Error - Unknown Hard Error. When I click OK my screen goes black and it stays that way for hours and then the login screen appears again and when I log on I get a black screen for hours again and then we repeat all over again.
So, bottom line, my computer that I use to make my living, is useless. My only choice now, because after reading more information on the web, is that Microsoft does not have a fix and probably does not even know how to fix what their latest update did to my computer and many others. So, all I can think of to do is to go and purchase a new laptop and not install this F***** U* update if it is even possible to not install it. Whoever is responsible for this needs to be fired. This is completely unacceptable. To make matters worse I have had significant problems with previous updates, but, by spending several hours working on it, I was able to get my computer up and running again. This time you managed to kill it completely.
I would like to know who at Microsoft to bill for my lost time trying to fix the problem I was given, money, and for the new computer I am going to have to purchase, and for the time it will take to load all the programs and configure this new machine? Microsoft critical updates SUCKS! The fact that your updates cannot be shut off SUCKS! Maybe a Mac is the answer?
