LEFT-CLICK MOUSE ISSUE

I am not able to LEFT-click on the start Menu (bottom left hand corner) nor the Clock (bottom right hand corner). The only thing that happens when I LEFT-click on those areas is that It spins for a few seconds, but nothing happens. In oder ti shut down the PC, I need to RIGHT-click on the start menu. Does anybody have advice? thank you
