Headset, Microphone not picking up my voice however the earphones are?

When trying to use my headset to record screen editing the microphone was only picking up the lowest muffle of my voice, after trying everything and selecting my speakers to play anything going through the headset, I held the headset infrom of my face and I could hear clearly but the earphones part is whats relaying my voice not the mic? how do i fix this I cannot just hold the earphones infromt of me
