unable to cast to smart TV

Have both connected to the same WIFI No problems there. I have enabled wifi display on smart TV. My laptop is windows 10. When I go into settings, system display, & then I click search "connect for a WIFI display " It brings up the TV, & connect, but after about 30 seconds it says it cannot connect. I am at a loss of what to do.
