network ethernet connection problem

Ever since 2, 3 ,4 or 5 ( I'm not sure which) Windows 10 updates ago, I can no longer see any network devices (although they are listed under storage, but not listed under computers, where they used to be accessed from in Explorer, under the Network heading) . It can still access my network laser printer. It can also access any external drives connected by USB. But any external drive connected by ethernet, the computer cannot see (let alone access). I have gone into the network settings and "allowed" anything that I thought might have to do with sharing, access, etc. I have two other windows 10 machines that are both working fine since the same updates, and can see and utilize all the network devices.

Any other ideas? This is really frustrating !
