Extremely slow mapped network drive access to folder with 45k+ files

Nice return to work on Tuesday to trying to open .dwg files which used to take 8-10 sec per file to open and print now is taking 3-4 minutes each on the local network. From my remote location 10-15 seconds now is taking 15-20 minutes? I understand smb2 protocol may be causing this, not sure why the dramatic increase from last week?
