Laptop moving at a crawl since failed 1803 update

The recent update to version 1803 failed after running for several hours. There was an automatic restoration to an earlier version. Since then, every function is moving at a crawl. This is incredibly frustrating. My Lenovo Flex 5-1570 is only six months old. How could a failed update hose my laptop so badly and are there any solutions?
