Hello,
For years now, I have been getting several thankyou letters a week from the Microsoft Store about video games and movies that I have not purchased. The email looks official, with all links contained directing my browser to official HTTPS Microsoft.com websites. The originating email is "*** Email address is removed for privacy ***" and comes up on my contacts as "Microsoft Store." The email on as far as to list the last 4 digits of the credit card used, displays the price of the purchase, and contains a thumbnail of the box cover... The whole thing comes together to make a very convincing package - only when I log in to my Microsoft account under the login my email is attached to, my Purchase History shows no such records (and thank goodness, because there's a lot of them).
So what's the deal? Here's a screenshot of what the email looks like:
This photo shows the information about the purchase, such as the order number, price, quantity etc... All clickable links send me directly to the Microsoft website, with no hidden links in-between to harvest login information. The second photo shows the Last 4 of the credit card used.
Like I said, I'm basically just trying to figure out what's going on. My account has not been charged for any of these, and there are a LOT... Probably in the ballpark of 7-8 per week, and some of the charges "indicate" $40-$50! I feel bad for the credit card if it is in fact getting charged... which brings me to another question - is it possible someone is using a stolen credit card and somehow every time they use it, my email is getting used for the receipt? I dunno... the whole thing just seems odd for a phishing scam, I don't know where the actual angle would be.
Any information about this would be great, or if anyone has had similar experiences please share. If you know of a solution or someone to talk to so that these emails stop, please let me know... Thanks for taking the time to read all this.
Take care,
Spencer
