Syncing problem

I'm having a syncing problem and I don't know how to solve it. I own two devices running Windows 10 (a notebook and a desktop). I made several changes to the theme (background, background color and enabled night mode) through my notebook. Those new settings didn't sync, even though both devices have syncing enabled. Both computers are updated to the latest Windows 10 version, I also checked if all drivers where updated.

What I have tried so far on both devices:

  • Enabling and disabling syncing
  • Changing Feedback and Diagnostics Settings (my default was "full" already so I just kept it)
  • Using Microsoft Account Troubleshooter
  • SFC scan
  • DISM scan
  • Deleting cloud backup of personal settings
  • Disabling the antivirus and trying all the above again

I read on another thread that the problem might be account related (the person even said that creating another account and using it for syncing solved the issue). I wouldn't like to create another account because I'd need another email address and I find it inconvenient to have my Microsoft account tied to an email I won't use. How can I solve this?
