Windows XP Start Bar Not Responding

S

StarDuster

My Windows XP Professional start bar, including the task bar and clock, has
stopped responding to any actions. I am unable to click on any items located
there to open, close, or otherwise interact with them. When I do try to click
(left or right click) on anything there I get the windows error "boop"
sound.

This is causing many headaches as I have to alt-tab though windows and use
the windows key and arrow through the start menu taking up much more time
than usual. Other than this issue, my pc is performing as it should. Thanks
in advance for any help.

If this is a sudden and recent change have you tried a system restore to
before the problem occurred?

Another option is to run the edit on Kelly's site:
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm
Line 117: Restore Taskbar and Start Menu

See the top of the page for info on running the edit.

The start bar has just recently stopped working altogether. However, I have
had problems with it in the past not working at times. System restore did not
fix the problem.

Also, the link you gave opened a blank page. I tried going to
www.kellys-korner-xp.com and clicking on tweaks and had the same problem.
I'll try it again in a little bit. Maybe the website is down or something.

I was able to go to http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/taskbarplus!.htm and
downloaded the program. I booted the program and selected "taskbar is
missing" as my problem and clicked repair. After the program restarted the
windows shell my start bar worked!

I don't know if it's a permanent fix or if it will go away after awhile, but
for now I have my start bar back.

Great, that tool includes the registry edit I gave you the link for. Glad
it worked for you and thanks for posting back.
