Headset Mic not working in applications, really weird!!

I installed windows a few weeks ago, and its the latest updated version. The sound settings look very different. My problem is that the microphone from my usb headset is not working in applications like Discord and the video game I play. The usb headset is set to the default communication device and the speakers work fine. When I go to the properties and the Listen tab I turn on Listen to this device , hit apply and I can hear the microphone working just fine. But in Discord my voice chat software even when the device is selected as the microphone it does not work. It also does not work in the video game I play. I do not know what Stereo Mix is, with is enabled or disabled it doesn't seem to make a difference, and AGC is turned off, turned on made no difference. For the USB headset mic under properties controller information it says USB Audio Device (generic USB Audio), Jack information No Jack Information Available. For spatial sound I have Windows Sonic for Headphones selected. When I open sound settings under Input there is not slider for the microphone level. Under app volume and device preferences I even set all the inputs to the usb microphone, still nothing. When I troubleshoot the input device it says Problems found Audio format not set to default Fixed (green check mark) It still does not work.

When I click configure for the usb headset, and then setup microphone I get an error window.2b779820-e569-4e36-9f47-fa8ade25f3de?upload=true.png

When I click Advanced speech options under speech recognition I get a window that says Could not initialize volume meter. Please select a different audio input device.cd254b4c-f6eb-4ab3-815f-edb2bc39c5a0?upload=true.png

My headset microphone obviously works because when I click Listen to this Device I hear it working. Why are all these apps not working, it's like there is some blockage or something in windows. Severely confused as to why Windows all of a sudden has all these changes to audio settings. It seems way to complicated now, makes no sense. Can someone please tell me whats going on this is driving me nuts!
