I made the mistake of allowing a windows update which tied up my 6 month old laptop for almost 3 hours before work preventing me from using it. When I got home it needed another hour to get started. After that I get the message, "No audio output device is installed".
I spend all of last night and today running the troubleshooter which keeps promising it fixed the problem. No audio.
After a day of this I rolled back windows preserving my personal files. This still hasn't fixed the problem and now I'll need to reinstall all my programs and preferences. Furthermore, a lot of the default apps don't work (photo, browsers, etc) and when they do they are glitchy and freeze intermittently in the middle of typing a word. Since nothing is working and may weekend is more than half spent on this situation I'm considering the nuclear option and reset the whole thing. If that doesn't work I can try a new laptop with Linux.
