How to Stop Windows 10 (home) Update

Please advice on options to stop Windows 10 (Home) update.

Reason: Three weeks ago, I encountered Sihost Unknown Hard Error / Explorer Unknown Hard Error on my desktop PC. I am yet to find a reinstallation method that does not lose user data and user installed programs. For this case (shiest unknown hard error etc.,), I would like to hear from some one who actually experienced the problem and successfully reinstalled Windows 10 without losing user data and programs.

(Regarding another post of mine on this subject, I received links to solutions that are not proven to work - that is not lose user data and user installed programs.)

At present, I have a working Windows 10 laptop. Yesterday, I saw Microsoft is pushing Windows 10 Update on to the laptop. I immediately asked for help from MS Support. They kindly stopped the update.

But, today, the Windows 10 download and Installation process resumed. (So, I disconnected the internet connection) and put the laptop to sleep !!!

I am wondering whether there is a better way to stop the update (than, not using the laptop !!!).

Back to the methods of stopping the update (MS Support used a "Show or Hide Update" tool. How can I get this tool?

Regards

Asoka
